Newly elected MEB JAN works with MANNY AGUSTINES '58 to give the BETA ESPILON WAY new markers.

After being elected MEB for 2010-11, JAN ARCINUE (second gen) met with some senior brods to bring up a very good point. JAN said, "Should we not put up a refurbished Beta Epsilon Way marker in preparation for the June 13th COE alumni homecoming? Nakakahiya na ang itsura ng marker na nakalagay doon. Does not send a good message of excellence for a top notch fraternity in U.P. The venue for the homecoming will be right where one marker is now located". I was in that meeting and the first thing that entered my mind was, "Ang husay magisip ng brod na ito (daig ang tatay.) Ha! Ha! Ha!". So what else can we say but, "Go ahead and do what needs to be done". Then JAN looked at me and I know what that look meant. So I said, "Don't worry, we will provide the funds for the job. Submit your design and cost estimate".

Etong si MON RAMIREZ mahaba ang mind retention. So after the meeting, he mentioned to me, "Lito, natatandaan mo ba na sabi ni MANNY that he will take care of the expense of the BE WAY marker rehab". Of course I remember so I told MON, "Yes, I do". Immediately after that, I shot an email to my ever generous ka-batch MANNY. And the reply was, "Tell JAN to give me the plans and I will make sure that we have an everlasting marker. One that will not deteriorate under any weather condition and will last longer than any Betan now living". I told MANNY, "This is no longer within my reach. Can I tell JAN to get in touch with you directly so you two can do the job properly". MANNY said yes.

The rest is history. MANNY not only generouly shouldered the cost of the two markers (one each in MELCHOR and PALMA ends) but got involved in the design and the fabrication. He used the metal fabricator of the RAMCAR GROUP who does all the metal works for RAMCAR, KFC, TOKYO-TOKYO and MISTER DOUGHNUT. MANNY told me that the metal used in the marker was what his "metal master" recommended given the place where it will stand.

MANNY is a brod who quietly supports projects of the frat (and brods in need). I am not sure he will like my taking the liberty of broadcasting this news to you guys. But I just feel that we should give credit where credit is due. Surely, in my list, MANNY is one of the more generous members we have and the frat is very lucky to have him as a brod. Thank you,  MANNY.

There is one thing that cannot escape my mind and which I up to now cannot comprehend. Probably some of you guys can help out on this. HOW COME OUR BROD MANNY AGUSTINES, A CE GRADUTE OF THE COE, PRESIDENT OF THE ENG'G STUDENT COUNCIL, A HARVARD EDUCATED MBA, AND FOUNDER/CEO OF THE RAMCAR GROUP WHICH HAS A MONOPOLY OF THE PHILIPPINE BATTERY BUSINESS, AND A LEADER IN THE FAST FOOD INDUSTRY -- IS NOT IN THE LIST OF THE TOP 100 OUTSTANDING COE ALUMNI OF THE CENTURY. Did you ever hear the song of HADJI ALEJANDRO titled Nakapagtataka? Ha! Ha! Ha! The joke is, kaya hindi kasali, kasi MANNY showed his displeasure very openly, and rightly so, when BE was ranked number ???. I can't remember anymore, kasi nga napakababa compared to the grades of the other COE orgs. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Never mind MANNY, in the hearts of many betans, mine included, you are "A number 1".

Take a look at the marker as posted by another ka-batch '58, DENNIS QUINTO in the attachment.

Good day to all and BEst wishes.

LITO MANAHAN '58

PS - Buti na lang may batch '58. Maganda ang takbo ng frat. Ha! Ha! Ha! Joke lang ito mga tol. Of course, the frat is moving fast-forward because of the collective effort of the whole brotherhood from batch '49 of Mr. Kapihan, JOE ARVISU, to the resident brods under the leadership of MEB JAN ARCINUE (second gen ni OCA and a NO-PI batch). All doing voluntary work for the frat we love, BETA EPSILON.

MABUHAY ANG LAHAT !!!

Note from Mon:

Don't worry, Lito. In a true democracy, the majority rules and they reign supreme. Now, there are 16,500 UPCOE alumni, and the MOA are only 100. We non-MOAns comprise the 16,400 majority! We are the much bigger group, they are the very much smaller group! Gusto ko happy ka! ;-)
