From Boy:

The 300th Kapihan is the first Kapihan where Betanettes (and Betanaks, Betapos) were declared welcome, thanks to the inspired idea of Sonny Laigo (2011-12 BEAI Pres) and Ojie Alzona.

Thanks to Jun Berba's network, Brod Juanito Gregori '52 came in from the cold.

Some Brods were still having tawilis and boneless bangus lunch at 1 pm.
I wonder who were last to leave? :-))

DMCI Homes Inc. Bldg Admin Mgr Sahlee Guevarra kept the coffee bottomless, esp. the brew of Baguio coffee beans, aside from the complete kitchen services. Thanks, Sahlee!

From Rod Reventar

Boy,

Many thanks for sharing your pictures of the BE 300th Kapihan. It was nice to see pictures of my ka-batch'58 - Lito, Rey, Dennis and my brother Roly and our MEB Jun Berba. Also our contemporaries - Roni, Rod, Bobby Tinio, Alex, Edong, etc. I think Edong goes to Manila in August especially for our Anniversary celebrations. Is that right Edong? I always see him in pics during August.

Anyway, glad to see everyone looking happy and healthy. Kudos to Joe Arvisu, Mr Kapihan and to my ka-batch Rey as Top Kapihanero.
And to everyone who organized the event - especially the one who was missing - Ojie, he,he,he.

Wish I was there. Hail Beta Epsilon!

From Lito Manahan

The attendance record of those who joined the celebration of our Kapihan's Silver Anniversary is the biggest so far spanning eight decades from JOE ARVISU '49, Mr. Kapihan himself, to batch 2011 of the residents. Attendees were not only betans but included a number of betanettes, betanaks and a betapo of ED PAYNOR. I was glad to see present, OLIVE OBIAS who joined in despite YATS being in the other life.

Planning for this event was started several months back during Kapihan sessions in Shangri La Mall. JOE has been egging us to "move" because the date is approaching. OJIE will always remark, "Don't worry, we will manage it". The first item is the place. There were two choices. The DMCI HOMES Headquarters in Makati or the RAMCAR CENTER PENTHOUSE in Quezon City. In the end, the decision was to hold the 82nd anniversary stag in RAMCAR and the Grand Kapihan in DMCI HOMES.

JOE VIC GONZALEZ who has been a regular Kapihan attendee in Shang volunteered to bring pospas and goto from his place in Laguna. OJIE volunteered to split the cost with JOE VIC. The other generous brods followed. I can't remember all the names but our brods from Nestle offered bottomless Nescafe Coffee and Nestea. I saw on the table tapa, longaniza, boneless bangus, itlog na maalat, puto, plain rice, pan de sal, tawilis, suman, oranges, etc. Of course, the goodies that my ka batch MANNY AGUSTINES sent (kaya lang absent siya kasi may appointment sa Cebu) from Mr. Donut like yun nga donuts, brownies, and buns with ham and cheese. When I arrived a bit late, laplap na the lechon that CS SIMBULAN sent over.

There was a brief program with the usual invocation, frat song, silent prayer for those who passed on, etc. But the highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of a plaque to JOE for spearheading the Kapihan from the start in 1986 to the present. A plaque was also given to another ka batch of mine, REY BAUTISTA, for having the best attendance. The top ten "kapihaneros" were called in front for a photo op. Sadly, two brods in the top 10 list are no longer around. These are Prof. DOM ILIO and BOY KAPUNAN.

The event was global in attendance. Apart from BEAI brods, DOJIE MANAHAN came in to represent BESA while EDONG PUNZALAN and DENNIS QUINTO, another ka batch (boring na ito ah!) of mine were physically present to represent the BEFAAA betans.

Then picture taking by batch. Suprisingly, the decade of the 50's batch had the biggest attendance. Mga wala na talagang ginagawa. MEB's, BEAI PRESIDENTS, BETANETTES, FATHER AND SON (second gen) and FATHER AND SON-IN-LAW pictures were also taken.

It was not only a memorable day but an enjoyable one. Everybody was having a good time and the eating was just non-stop. The kapihan extended to tanghalian. By the time I left at 1 p.m. there were still brods making chikahan while eating lunch. As JOE always say, "Wish you were here".

Thank you brods for supporting this affair.
Many thanks too to SHALEE.
LITO MANAHAN '58

PS - Pictures of the event are posted by MON RAMIREZ, LEONY LIONGSON and BOY DE LEON. Don't fail to see them.

And much thanks too to the Brods and Betanettes
who brought the tapa, bangus, langgoniza, doughnuts, etc --
too long to list down here but which the BEAI Secretary
will acknowledge in a formal assessment report of the truly successful celebration of the 300th kapihan.
And to the Betan who did many of the hard work of organizing this milestone event,
Ogie Alzona '74
our most sincere appreciation of your efforts (even if on the day itself you left for Singapore)
And to
BEAI President
Sonny Laigo '72
who. in the management of this celebration, gave us a preview of a nice fraternal management style
that gives full play to the initiative of brods that leads to collective work and participation.
Mabuhay kayo!  Mabuhay Beta Epsilon!

Email from Ed Paynor

September 6, 2011

Lito,

Unlike ordinary Kapihans, we had the big benefit of having a Sahlee (not Shalee) for our Grand Kapihan who also made sure aong other things, that there was adequate clean utensils, plates, cups & glass for water & other drinks at anytime for brods to use. I would also like to mention other services that she and her team provided: continuous frying of tapa and bangus, clearing of used plates, trash on tables.. etc.

Somebody has to give a story about the badminton that happened earlier. The tournament was often interrupted by numerous calls from the emcee. (paging Nick Villasenor- what was the score?)

We thank brod Rosel Santos for his initiative by paging and making sure the attendees signed in the logbook. kaya Pati Apo ko na 16 months old pumila narin.

We thank Brod Danny Abis Lopez for emceeing the program and helping out in the photo ops.

We thank the following photographers: Leony Liongson, Mon Ramirez, Kevin Paynor, Boy de Leon, etc.

I remember first BEAI Pres. Brod Jun Berba, was requested to speak about the origins of the BEAI in 1989 as a by-product of the Kapihan. It was in one of the Kapihans that started the concept of formalizing the formation & establishment of an Alumni Association. Brod Jun, paki expound nga.

I will be remiss if I did not mention here the yellow "1st Saturday Kapihan" T-shirt that brod Joe Arvisu wore for the event; designed, ordered and donated by the Paynor brods for the occasion.

Brod Cesar Luis Sison'67 ordered a couple of coffee mugs but the supplier failed to deliver in time for the SAturday event. He intends to distribute during the 301st Kapihan on October 2.

Lino Angeles arrived at 12:24 PM and wished that no brod would come in so he would hold the record of being that last brod to join in the celebration. But at 12:51 PM Mon Escueta came in. Lino held the record for only 27 minutes.
