BETANS CALL ON NEW COE DEAN. HANDS OVER P500,000.

A group of resident and alumni Betans called on the new COE Dean, Ms. AURA MATIAS. MEB JAN ARCINUE made the introduction and named the following who were with us: BEAI PRES. DENI CUAYO, OJIE ALZONA, MON RAMIREZ, BOY DE LEON, TITO ALIGA, residents RELAN CASTRO and BOBBIT CASTRO and ME. She asked me if RICKY was my son who was her student. Sabi ko, "Mam pamangkin ko. Betan din po siya". She told TITO, " I want you to revive the Linkage Program". Syempre sagot ni TITO , "Yes, Mam". Tapos kay BOY, "I still need you in COE. Continue your consultancy". Sagot din ni BOY, "Yes, Mam".

The Dean enumerated her plans for the COE. More green buildings, tree planting, closer relations with the public and the alumni, dialogue with the departments and the COE orgs. Ayaw din niya ng rumbles. We told her, "Mam, matagal ng walang rumbles ang mga COE frats". She said that's good and she wants the four frats to have joint projects that are productive for the college.

 

As our token for this call, we gave her three different copies of annual publications, a BE t-shirt (gusto ko ito she said), some DVD's of our archives (75 years of Beta Epsilon history, SUNDIAL history of the UP College of Engineering, and Tribute to Prof Ilio), and a BE mug (gusto ko rin ito).

For the clincher, OJIE turned over to her a manager's check for P500,000 which is a donation given by WALLY LIU '78 for one room in the Centennial Dorm of the COE. We apologized for WALLY who could not make it because of his busy schedule.

(WALLY gave his check yesterday at the Grand Kapihan. Pictures showing this have been posted. BE is thankful to WALLY for this generosity. He could have easily said that he wants the room to be named after him, his parents or his company. But no. He said he wants the room to be named THE BETA EPSILON ROOM. Salamat ng marami WALLY.)

The courtesy call lasted for about an hour.

PS - Malakas si OJIE kay Dean AURA. Why did I say this? Kasi sila, beso-beso, lahat kami kanamayan lang. And he calls her AU. Kami, Ma'm or Dean.
